Travel Protection

Travel protection.

Planning for what would happen if a death occurs while you are away from home.

What it is

Travel protection is a separate plan, often considered alongside a pre-arranged funeral. Depending on the plan, it can help arrange transportation of remains back home, and help with the paperwork, if a death happens while traveling a set distance from home.

Benefits, distance rules, exclusions and cost depend on the plan. Some travel plans are insurance and some are service plans that are not insurance. Before you decide, we will tell you in writing who provides the plan and whether it is insurance, and go over the plan documents with you.

Questions worth asking

  • Who provides the plan, and is it an insurance policy or a service membership?
  • How far from home do you need to be for the plan to apply?
  • Does it apply outside the United States?
  • What does it include: transportation, paperwork, coordination with local authorities?
  • Are there exclusions or waiting periods?
  • Is it a one-time payment, and is it tied to a pre-arranged funeral?

Ask about travel protection

We are confirming which travel protection plan we can offer, who provides it, and whether it is insurance. Until then we are not taking requests for it on this page.

If you are planning a funeral in advance, you can ask about travel protection during that conversation, and we will tell you in writing what is available before you decide.
